CO2 Energie Case Study
CO2 Energie AG is a joint venture of Regionalwerke Baden (a leading regional utility in Switzerland) and REAG (a leader in food waste recycling). Their team is expert at developing complex, multidisciplinary projects that serve their local communities, providing clean energy and environmental services.
Carbon Impact and RWB started discussions about BECCS potential in 2021. Carbon Impact partnered with Airfix for a first feasibility study analysing the potential for negative emissions at one of RWB biomass plants.
In 2022 Carbon Impact and South Pole led the submission of an application for financing negative emissions which was accepted by the Climate Cent Foundation in 2023. Securing Climate Cent Foundation financing has enabled one of the largest BECCS projects in Switzerland that will remove up to 20 000 tons of CO2 between 2026 and 2030.
BioCO2 Nancy
Case Study
In 2022 a group of farmers operating Meurthenergie, a biomethane plant in Nancy, East of France, contacted Carbon Impact to understand if there could be a valuable use for the biogenic CO2 emitted by their biogas purification unit.
Carbon Impact then contacted neighboring biomethane units of Mortagne and Méthanisation Seille Environnement and persuaded them to perform a feasibility study for the sequestration of the CO2 from the 3 biogas plants. The study, partly financed by BPI France opened the way for the commercialization phase of the first BECCS project in France that will remove up to 10 0000 tons of CO2 per year from the atmosphere.
